The CDC - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - reports that Alabama has one of the highest rates of opioid prescriptions written for every segment of the population. During the last year of study - in 2017 - it was also reported that Alabama has one of the highest rates of prescriptions written for opioid drugs across the United States. This rate was close to 2 times as high as that reported at the national level. This was according to reports from NIDA - the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
